[tweetmeme]Are you the type of person who likes to try many things? Do you have several balls in the air at one time? Do those around you encourage you to focus and stop being ‘all over the place’ or better yet joke about your being ‘scattered’?
Many of us who diversify our hobbies, businesses, friends, relationships are probably seeking a center for ourselves. We might be open to having one special ‘thing’ but don’t know what that is just yet. Could there be value in expanding your horizons until you find the ‘right’ place or thing for yourself? What if you consider this the way of life for you to continue? Isn’t that OK too?
Diversification is a very common characteristic of those starting over. They might want to ‘taste’ all that life has to offer. I remember doing this myself after a divorce. After years of being connected, I had a clean slate before me to create my new life. I wasn’t going to choose just anything. After all, it’s MY life and I am entitled to design it right? So I tried several business opportunities, social activities, volunteer positions, and even friendships. I formulated myself from those experiences and continue to do so. And let me tell you, there are those who continue to prod me to ‘stay on track’. Whose track I say?
It could be frustrating if you have opposing thinkers in your life or your own negative self talk that tries to rush you into something you are not ready to commit to. Don’t sell out because of pressure.
Why not try to embrace your diversification. Enjoy it, allow it and even encourage it. What? Yes, encourage that you try new ways until you find the way that feels like you are ‘home’. I made a list of categories I wanted to explore- career, social, personal development etc. Then I continued to add new possibilities choices to the list. I checked one off at a time. Some were a YES and some were an emphatic NO. I am so glad I gifted myself this wonderful experience. I hope you do so as well.
